There has always been a keen interest in both of us to combine woodwind,
brass and strings with electronically generated sound.
Especially so called self-playing synthesized music,
generated by programmed modular synthesizers,
is what the thirteen tracks of .KURGES are focusing on.
As a starting point, recordings of different self-playing patches,
always unique in their course as there is
a certain degree of randomness in it, were used to improvise over with our
acoustic means (trumpet, trombone, alto- and bassrecorder, kantele).
For better embedding of the acoustic lines,
different additional sound sources (toy instruments, prepared everyday articles,
fieldrecorded voices, electronic effects) were applied.
The thirteen tracks can be segmented as follows:
- four smash hits: "Rollercoaster Of Emotions",
"Lined Up In the Housekeeper's Sight",
"A Sole Wrong Move",
"Potshots In Bathing Cabins"
- four ballads: "Social Rabbit Punch", "The Last Fango",
"Human Factor Anomalies"
- three intermezzi: "Very Clubbable Circle At Dinner",
"Weights Room", "The MD's Silence Is Overrated"
…and two bonus tracks: "Stephen, the Addicted Doctor",
"After the Cure - Before the Cure"
And what about the title .KURGES and those funny track-titles?
The answer to this question we want to leave to the listener's highly esteemed fantasy.
But - it should be important to know that there are about 5000 sanatorium
beds in the world – and in germany as well!
